A number of you have e-owled me saying that, although you registered as a forum member, you never received a password. If you register but never receive a password to login, please try the following:
1. First of all, your user name can have no dashes, spaces, or punctuation in it. You will also not be allowed to register as "Potter" or "Hermione" or such. Don't worry, once you get registered, you can always change your Display Name (not your user name) to something like Esmeralda Ronsard or Calliope Sweetsong or Will Feral or whatever you wish.
2. If possible, try to avoid using an AOL email account. AOL has "Advanced Spam blocker" which will reject any messages from Proboards as "Spam."
3. If you've tried to register but still don't get a password, check your trash bin or spam folder in your email account. Sometimes messages from Proboards get treated as Spam and end up in the trash. Other times, they are simply rejected / bounced. Again, AOL seems to be particularly guilty of this.
4. If you've checked your trash bins / spam folders and still can't locate your password, try re-registering, with a different email account if possible. If you can, make a temporary email account at www.hotmail.com if you don't already have another non-AOL account, and use that one to get your password. Once you've gotten it and logged in, you can change your email address back to your AOL account in your forum Profile, if you wish.
If you end up having to register more than once to finally get that password and get logged in, please notify me by email or forum IM about the double registration, and ask one of us to delete the one that didn't work or that you're not using.
5. If none of the above works, you can try sending me an email message telling me what the problem is. I can go in and manually change your password and let you know what it is. Then, after you login using that password, you can go to your Profile and change it to something else.
6. If you finally get a password and all and still can't get logged in, you might have a firewall set up that won't permit you to interface with our forum site. Ask the person who set up the firewall to add our forum URL to the firewall so you can get in.
Sorry about the hassle! Unfortunately, even the best of forums have a few bugs, and if your email provider blocks Proboards messages, then it's going to be tough to get your messages.
